Our Fall 2020 series of plant sales at the farmers markets in Georgetown was a huge success.  Big thanks go to the Georgetown, Sun City, and Wolf Ranch Farmers Markets for allowing us to be guests for a day.  Our hard-working, enthusiastic team of volunteers worked for months getting ready for the sale and followed through right to the end.  Believe or not, we are already working on the Spring 2021 sale!  We are extremely grateful for our plant producers for providing us great native plants to sell.  Between sales, check with Wright’s Nursery in Briggs if you are seeking more native plants.

Many of our customers were seeking native plants for shade, and plants with some level of deer resistance.  We are planning to have more shade tolerant plants in the next sale.  As for deer resistance, we will work on that, too.  There is an excellent article on dealing with deer in the landscape in the most recent issue of the NPSOT members newsletter, Native Plant Society of Texas News.  Check it out at this link.

Lots of customers downloaded and printed the plant availability list and brought it to the sale.  Several of you commented on how much you liked having it.  We will keep that going.

We appreciate the customer feedback and really enjoy talking and listening to you at the sales.

Nancy Benedict Memorial

The Nancy Benedict Memorial Award is given to a person for an act of conservation or public service in the field of Texas native plants. This year’s recipient is Charles Newsom for leading and organizing volunteer efforts to remove invasive plants from the Berry Springs Park and Preserve in Georgetown. This ongoing effort, which has spanned several years, has increased the native plant diversity, improved wildlife habitat, and greatly improved the aesthetic beauty of Berry Springs Park and Preserve for our human eyes.

Congratulations, Charles!

Williamson County Pollinator Garden

— by Marilyn Perz
The Pollinator Garden workday was well attended last Saturday by nine volunteers from the Good Water Master Naturalist Chapter, Tonkawa NPSOT Chapter and our Williamson County NPSOT Chapter.  Thank you to all of YOU!

Williamson County Pollinator Garden

The weather was great for working out there and we were not even blown away by the strong Prairie winds that can whip through there at times. A pile of weeds and brush was generated, and we all felt a sense of accomplishment as that pile grew.  As with most gardens, the work is never really done.

Williamson County Pollinator Garden

Even though we do not plan to have another official workday there, you are always welcome to continue with the cleanup on your own.  A bit of a perk will come in 2-3 weeks when the berm will become “Bluebonnet Hill” and maybe while you take your yearly Bluebonnet picture, grab a few weeds too!
