We are looking for someone special who enjoys organizing events and would like to support our Native Landscaping Certification Program (NLCP) classes. It is a great way to help our chapter promote native plants with the public.

NLCP needs a lead person to work with the instructors and coordinate our landscaping classes. Below is a summary of the NLCP-Wilco Coordinator’s duties. You are not required to attend the classes but you may audit any or all of them for free!

  • Acts as the contact point for NLCP-Williamson County classes
  • Obtains assistance and delegates duties where appropriate
  • Schedules classroom for spring and fall classes
  • Schedules instructors, walk leaders & classroom assistants
  • Coordinates plant sample collection
  • Arranges for copies of class materials
  • Provides name badges
  • Mails class documentation to state NLCP Coordinator after each class
  • Fills out class Expense Report and provides to the treasurer for reimbursements

If this is a good fit for your skill set, please contact Gary Bowers or Randy Pensabene (or let us know by email to [email protected]).

  • – Randy Pensabene, President, NPSOT-Williamson County Chapter
  • – Gary Bowers, NLCP-Wilco Coordinator, Past-President, NPSOT-Williamson County Chapter

Part of our chapter’s stated mission is to educate our community about our wonderful Texas native plants.   One of the best ways we have of accomplishing this is through our Speakers Bureau.

In an effort to expand our offerings and to enable more members to participate we are enlarging our committee and invite you to volunteer with us if you have computer skills you would love to share and/or writing skills for providing text for new PowerPoint programs.

After our meeting last week a few people did just that and we are excited about that.  We are hoping for more such volunteers, so please give a call to Kathy Henderson at 512 868 1183  or send an email to [email protected].

We are also looking for folks who will take one of our PowerPoints to other groups and present the information.   When we get our library developed we will have a nice variety of topics from which to choose. (Another way you can be involved with our effort to educate the community is to suggest one of our programs to other groups you belong to or know about.)

We already have a few presentations ready to go.  The more hands we have working on this, the more our chapter has to offer and the more fun all of us will have.   Please join us!

Proposed Chapter Bylaw Change; Updated Board Duties Document

** ARCHIVED POST – LINKS AND IMAGES MAY NOT WORK**

— by Randy Pensabene

PROPOSED BYLAW CHANGE

The Past President’s role on the NPSOT-Williamson County Chapter Board is a key position.  Our chapter bylaws currently and correctly name this position as a chapter officer but the bylaws do not describe its key duties.

NPSOT-Wilco’s current board of directors recommends amending one article in our bylaws with the update described below.  Our bylaws call for 30 days notice to chapter members before voting on an amendment so the proposed update will be voted upon at our December 12, 2019 chapter meeting.  We will also announce the proposed update at the chapter meeting on November 14.

The specific changes between the current bylaw and the proposed revision are noted in bold green.   The chapter’s current bylaws can be found on the chapter website under About Us->Chapter Documents->NPSOT-Wilco Bylaws.

Article IV.  Officers and Board,  Section 5. Duties of Officers
Proposed Revision:  Insert a new item E, and renumber the current item, “Directors”, from E to F.

E.  Past President

1) Provides continuity to the board and provides historical knowledge regarding board decisions made during their presidency.
2) Shall be the Chairman of the Nominating Committee and recruits the members for the committee.
3) Is authorized to sign checks presented to them by the Treasurer.

F.  Directors

CHAPTER BOARD MEMBER DUTIES

Would you like to know more about the duties of the chapter board?  Have you thought about volunteering for a board position but weren’t sure what it entails?

You can find information about positions on the board anytime under the website menu item About Us->Chapter Documents where you’ll see Board Member Duties-Williamson County Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas. This document is maintained by the chapter’s board and was recently updated to reflect current responsibilities.  Take a look!

  • Thanks,
  • Randy
