Join NPSOT-Wilco’s online chapter meeting on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 7:00 pm, when Leah Churner will present Landscaping with Native Plants: Ten Design Principles for Home Gardeners. (You must register to attend the meeting. Instructions are later in this post. Starting this month, we’re using a new Zoom account so be sure to read the registration info.)
We give away a book at every meeting — about native plants or the meeting topic — to one randomly chosen meeting attendee!
About the topic: Good garden design is always a balance between the aesthetic and the practical. The conventional design wisdom found in garden books is typically geared toward audiences in England, California, or the East Coast — all very different climates than ours. How can we adapt the “rules of composition” to Central Texas? In this presentation, Leah Churner (Delta Dawn Gardens) will introduce some basic principles of landscape design — how to group plants, build contrast with shapes and textures, and work with the vertical plane — and discuss how these ideas can be applied to sustainable, water-wise gardens in our area. Learn how to create a pleasing design with a palette of native plants, support local ecology, and have fun in the process!
About our speaker: Leah Churner is the owner of Delta Dawn Gardens, a landscape consultation, design, and maintenance company in Austin. She is the producer and cohost of The Horticulturati podcast, and teaches garden design in Austin Community College’s Landscape and Horticulture Continuing Education Program.
NOTE: The June 10 meeting will be hosted on our new Zoom account. If you were previously registered for our monthly virtual meeting series on our old Zoom account you need to register for this meeting with the new link. The new account allows us to host more participants. See you there!
NPSOT-Williamson County meetings are free and open to the public. We hope you attend! Meetings may be in person, virtual, or both, so be sure to check details in the meeting announcement. Meetings are announced on our website, our calendar and Facebook.

We are looking at beginning live meetings where we will physically meet in a room and also broadcast over Zoom and will keep you informed. Our elections would normally be held at our July meeting; however, this year our elections will be held by online ballot. A ballot with complete instructions will be provided to chapter members via email as our July 8th meeting date nears.
